Yes, immediate past PH Secretary of Agriculture William Darhas just been announced all over the world via Facebook that he won the very “1stGlobal Leadership Award” – from India’s intellectually farsighted MS Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF). Mr Dar will receive it in New Delhi on Thursday, 10 Nov 2022.
Yes, Mr Dar is the Secretary of Agriculture whose appointment was not renewed by Pres Ferdinand “BBM” Marcos Jr. BBM Sir, I am not asking you “Why?” Rather, I am asking, “Why not?”

Sinita Kumarisays, “Dr William Dar To Receive MS Swaminathan Global Award For Sustainable Development On Nov 10” (04 Nov 2022, Krishi Jagran, krishijagran.com). The awarding is part of the AgroWorld2022 fair & summit, 09-11 Nov in New Delhi. The worldwide award had been instituted “to recognize the outstanding contribution of leaders towards global food security and sustainable development.”
BBM Sir, how can the whole world, much less the Filipinos, ignore such a worldwide distinction achieved by a Filipino leader?!
No, Mr Dar is not perfect; no, I do not agree 100% with 1 or 2 of his policies as head of the PH Department of Agriculture (DA), but I know he is the best Secretary of Agriculture my country has ever had!
Under Pres Rodrigo Roa Duterte, he was Agriculture Secretary from Aug 2019 to June 2022. Too short a time for his “The New Thinking for Agriculture” to take root, blossom and bear fruits nationally!
I congratulate the Indians led by MS Swaminathan for recognizing the worldwide value of the leadership of Filipino William Dar – the Indians appreciate what we Filipinos don’t?!
And BBM Sir, we can now demand that Mr Dar pursue the sustainable development of PH Agriculture.
Mr Dar does not speak much about “Sustainable Development” but the inspirer of the global leadership award MSSRF does, and so I will too. In his speech accepting a DLit degree from the ITM University, Gwalior, in 2018, Mr Swaminathan said (“Development mssrf.org):
This is the decade of sustainable development and sustainable agriculture (as designated by the United Nations). Sustainable agriculture has four components – conservation, cultivation, commerce and consumption.
That’s 4 Cs. Good, but to me not good enough – “Sustainable Agriculture” is not good enough! I want to add 2 more Cs: “Climate Change.” If properly carried out, to improve Conservation in Agriculture, it requires what is now referred to as “Regenerative Agriculture.”
No, Mr Dar has not spoken of Regenerative Agriculture, but if he becomes Secretary of Agriculture again, I will hound him with it! We all have to learn sometime.
And yes, BBM Sir, that includes you – you have to learn more than your advisers tell you. You have to learn to think about the Roadmap that will lead you to P20/kg rice, without sacrificing the farmers. If you ask me, Regenerative Agriculture is the answer to your prayers – and those of the Filipinos in general.@517
